About the ALS Symposium
ALS/ MND (Motor Neuron Disease) is a degenerative disease of the nerve cells that activate the motor system. The disorder leads to muscle weakness and atrophy throughout the body, caused by the degeneration of the motor neurons. Within a short period of three to five years ALS is fatal, due to failure of the respiratory or swallowing muscles. Scientific research into ALS is conducted worldwide in order to find an effective therapy for this disease. Despite the fact that this goal has not yet been achieved, important steps have been taken on a scientific and medical level.
Motor Neurone Disease Assosiation
The renowned International Symposium on ALS/MND is organized annually, bringing together ALS patients, scientists, medical doctors and nurses. In 2014 Brussels hosts the ALS/MND Symposium.
The symposium is the largest medical and scientific conference specific to MND and is the premier event in the MND research calendar for discussion on the latest advances in research and clinical management.
